Hi,

Due some lack of foresight, I made a mistake with the server config.

Anyone who may understand this may explanation, may revel in their extreme geekiness.

[size=150]Technical explanation:[/size]
The Webserver was recently configured to run Nginx with Apache2 as a reverse proxy, but there is a minor flaw with this setup. The Apache2 cannot distinguish between different users IP's and assigns all incoming requests as 127.0.0.1 (localhost).

Hence when someone tried to ban a user via the forum on 127.0.0.1, all users were banned at the same time (causing a global ban).

Since this is highly annoying, I am going to switch the config to regular Apache2 setup without Nginx. Until Nginx solves this bug in their software, it's not really going to be practical for Manga Masters.

Everyone got assigned the same IP address, so when the IP got banned, we all got banned. D'oh.

Due to the issue, it also has affected registrations, so registrations have been closed temporarily...

Anyone who registered after Friday lunchtime on June 24th will be removed, you will have to re-register (sorry for the inconvenience).

Registrations will be re-opened when I have changed the server config. I'll post another announcement when it's done.

Afternoon everyone!

It's about time that I posted about this. Those of you who have seen the new website (which has been live since after Christmas) will have noticed the banner at the top requesting for people to "fill the space".

What I want is everyone to contribute to the new banner in some way; be it an idea, a drawing or suggestion for a theme etc..

Currently Manga Masters is without a mascot and it looks sad and lonely in that white open space... What we need is something that will inspire other artists to come here and draw

If you have made anything you want to go into the banner, then please attach it to this forum thread and I will take the best ideas and create a new banner from everyone!

Just an update of whats been going on

"Falling snow" was added the forum and Paintchats over Christmas time. The forum was also upgraded to the newest version but no mods have changed or been added.

The new website for Manga Masters went live today at 3pm GMT. It did have a trail run last night but caused the server to crash. So I swapped the old website back and spent today fixing it before putting it live again.

We have a new Deviant Art club page called #TheMangaMasters. If you have a Deviant profile, it'd be great if you could support us by joining it

Things have been moving along steadily around here. Pretty much my work has been done. Been working on the new site for what seems weeks/months/years. I do hope with the new incarnation of the site will help with picking us up some popularity. Hopefully the forum will pick up too

YouTube now shows TV series on demand for FREE. You can see here.

Even a small selection of Anime is on show for you to watch... However. It is only available in some countries.

I don't know how this has been up but I only noticed it this evening.

P.S According to the Guardian, it's been up since Channel4 launched their video-on-demand section, built with YouTube. Posted 19th November.

I was thinking about doing another advent calendar this year but it took a lot of effort to do it last year and it's not very easy doing on my own so I am just going to leave it.

If you guys have any suggestion for festive decorations that can be made to the site, please feel free to tell me.

Sorry about the site being down between Saturday 9:30pm - Sunday 1am.

I was adjusting the server and made a boo boo which caused it to go offline...

It has since been fixed and back to full health again!

Also, tomorrow there will be down time on the forum between 1-3pm due to updating the forums.

Logging into Paintchat won't be affected but accessing the forum/registrations will be. Sorry for the inconvenience this will cause!

These are the plans for the forum over the next few days...

Auto pruning the "Spam Forum" - Done

The Spam Forum will be set to auto pruning. Any topics dumped into the "Spam Forum" will be automatically be deleted after 1 month by the forum software.

New Moderators
No new Moderators are needed for the moment. Inactive Moderators will set to a "[i]Retired[/i]" status until them become active again. This makes it easier for everyone to know who are the active Moderators.

A few Moderators will be selected to actively recommend new members to become Moderators to ensure that there is a healthy active number of Moderators on the forums at all times.

Forums Too Generalised - Experimental layout for the moment
Most of the forum areas are too generalised ie. "Gaming, Music & Entertainment", "Anime & Manga Discussions" & "Japan Discussion". They don't invoke any discussions because the topic is too broad.
Instead, more specific forum sections will be created ie. "Anime Episodes" with subforums like "Bleach; Naruto; One Piece".

This will invoke healthy discussions by limiting the topic material. General topics that don't these forums can still be posted in "General Chit Chat".

Deleting Old Users - Done
The website may have 7000 users but most of them are inactive...

Users who haven't visited the website in over 1 Year will be deleted from the board to give a more accurate number of current members.

Re-skin

The forum will be visually updated. Something that is more in keeping with Anime/Manga style. Something that is easier to use/read.

Adding Fun to the Forum!
New modifications and new smilies shall be be added to the forum to make it more fun. People like to spend there time so I want to make it as enjoyable as possible

I won't be going overboard like other forums with adding arcade's or anything like that, just little touches that I hope you will appreciate (like the reputation points).

Well, those are my thoughts for the moment... I shall update this post when I have had more time to think about it. It would also be interesting to hear your comments!

Hi guys ^_^

It's time for a change again. I am planning some new upgrade across the whole site and I would like your opinions on what you would like to see changed!

I am going to upgrade the main website to have more information, more interactive and easier to use. The forum will get a 'new skin' to be more clean and easier on the eyes.

More mod's will be eventually installed on the forums so you can enjoy spending time on here

One of my main goals is also to get more users using the forum! We now have hit the 7000 members mark yet not many talk on the forum!

The website is hopefully going to go into the direction of being community website where users can make groups of friends, post photos, read info about manga/anime and share knowledge about japanese culture.

I know things have been quiet on MM for the past year but I hope that I can re-ignite peoples passion for the website

I look forward to working with you guys!
